Numarqe was founded by James Bowler and Carl Burton — a former CFO and a technology leader — who saw first-hand how fragmented, manual and inefficient financial management was destroying value in mid-market businesses.
Our story
James Bowler spent over a decade as a CFO for mid-market businesses. Every day he managed the same problem: fragmented financial data, disconnected tools, and a finance team spending too much of its time on manual processes that generated no strategic value.
He knew exactly what a modern finance platform should do. What he couldn't find was one that did it — for a business his size, at a price that made sense, with the multi-currency and sector-specific capability his operations demanded.
So he built it. Together with Carl Burton — an experienced technology leader with deep expertise in financial systems architecture — James founded Numarqe in 2020. The result is the platform he always wished had existed.

James spent over a decade as a CFO for mid-market businesses across multiple sectors, managing the full spectrum of financial operations — Financial Control, AP, Treasury, FX, Procurement and Reporting. That experience is built directly into every aspect of the Numarqe platform. He understands the problems Numarqe solves because he lived them, every day, for over ten years.
Carl brings deep expertise in financial technology architecture, AI systems and payment infrastructure. He has led the technical build of Numarqe from the ground up — designing a platform that is simultaneously enterprise-grade in capability and genuinely usable by finance teams who don't have IT departments. Carl ensures that everything Numarqe promises technologically, it actually delivers.
